How to begin working as a food courier in Estonia?

Are you looking for extra ways to make money? Have some spare time on your hands? Or want a good excuse to be outside, exploring your city? As more people opt to work from home, even if just a few days a week, we are seeing a rise in the number of gig workers and platform workers, especially food couriers! The lunch break has transformed into the gig-work break for many people.

In a recent  study released by the  European Council, they predict that by 2025 the number of platform workers will rise by 52%! If you’re considering joining the movement to more flexible working options, we’ve compiled a list of easy ways to get involved with food delivery services and a checklist to keep in mind when applying.

No matter which platform you choose, or maybe you try them all! We wanted to put together a list of good practices to increase the tips you get and also to make sure you are staying safe while on the job.

Cachet Courier Tips:

Invest in proper gear!

Whether that means helmets, raincoats, or delivery coolers, you need to ensure that, while you’re on the go, you are always prepared (no matter the weather) and that the food is in safe hands so you don’t have to deal with any hangry customers!

Protect yourself with Delivery Rider insurance

Another important tip is to consider getting insurance, such as Cachet Delivery Rider insurance. This type of insurance can provide coverage for accidents and injuries that may occur while on the job, but also your personal rides are covered no matter if you ride with bicycle, scooter, electric scooter, electric bicycle or a skateboard.

Get a trusted navigation app

Find one that you like! Some people opt for Google Maps, and others for Waze. Waze gives a variety of route options, and if you are a local with good knowledge of your city, it could be a great way to avoid typical routes or traffic patterns.

Keep up to date with tax regulations

All income earned while being a courier is taxable! Before starting, ensure you know the proper tax requirements and whether it is best to be registered as a corporation or a sole proprietor. If you are located in Estonia, you can find all the up-to-date information on the EMTA website here

Extra treats for furry friends

A great way to make furry friends and avoid any confusion between you and the post worker! The food you deliver should be on the menu, not your ankles.
