Background
Taskrabbit was built for flexibility. To let people choose where, how, and when they work. But that same flexibility has long been underserved by traditional insurance.
Taskers, independent contractors performing tasks from furniture assembly to home repairs, work across regions, at different times, with no two jobs alike. This makes them hard to insure and easy to overlook.
Platforms like Taskrabbit have historically faced two bad choices: offer nothing, or offer something generic. Both limit value add, increase liability, and risk reputational damage if something goes wrong.
In 2024, Taskrabbit partnered with Cachet to give Taskers a better deal and start rewriting the playbook on gig worker protection. Together, we launched an embedded, cross-border insurance solution for Taskers that is designed around flexibility, delivered at scale.
Challenge
Outdated insurance failed the modern gig economy. Coverage options were limited and few insurers understood the nature of gig work. Even fewer could serve multiple EU countries with one solution.
The result was high friction. Manual enrolment. Unclear claims processes. Misalignment between cost and coverage. And operational burden on a team not built to manage insurance logistics.
For Taskrabbit, the real goal wasn’t just protection. It was a scalable system that rewarded gig workers’ loyalty with protection they could count on. Something they could roll out across multiple markets without draining time or trust.
Solution
Cachet stepped in as a unified insurance partner across multiple markets. That meant Taskrabbit’s central team could operate with one contact, one system, and one streamlined data pipeline.
No patchwork of insurers. No conflicting requirements. Just a scalable setup that delivered protection, seamlessly embedded and designed around the Tasker.
Together, with Hiscox we built a new offer for Taskrabbit users. Tailored protection with social value. That included going beyond accident and critical injury cover, to also include compassionate and family leave, benefits traditionally excluded from gig work. A standout feature has been the invaluable parental support, with Taskers receiving £/€500 to assist with the costs of welcoming a child.
Everything is embedded into the Cachet platform experience. No separate policies. No fine print. Just clear, accessible protection.
Effortless claims and real-time visibility become possible. The claims process is built into Cachet’s platform. Taskers file directly via our self-service portal. A claimed journey built for speed and simplicity.
The end-to-end insurance experience, designed by Cachet and made possible through partnership with Hiscox, delivers high Tasker uptake with minimal support.
Result
Together, Taskrabbit and Cachet delivered a solution built for the realities of gig work. A system that offers peace of mind, real-world protection, and deepens loyalty to the platform.
Taskrabbit now protects Taskers in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and the UK—under one unified agreement and one technology layer.
No manual claims handling. No repeated onboarding issues. No need to explain coverage to each new Tasker. Cachet absorbs the complexity, so Taskrabbit’s team can focus on growth.
Regarding retention, Tasker numbers have remained remarkably consistent since our launch, with no significant dips in churn, demonstrating the program’s positive impact on loyalty.
